The search “all loss tiny desk concert college football coaches ai” barely existed two weeks ago. Then a 19-second clip put five of college football’s biggest coaches behind NPR’s Tiny Desk, singing “Outstanding” the weekend all their teams lost. This is the story of that video, who made it, and how.
The video
On 18 October 2026, TikTok account @theburnerfromhe11 posted “College Football’s Week 8 All-Loss Tiny Desk Concert”. It takes the end of Charlie Wilson’s 2023 Tiny Desk performance of The Gap Band’s “Outstanding” and swaps the band for coaches whose teams had lost that Saturday. Clips of it were all over X by the next day.
The band
| Coach | Team | In the video |
|---|---|---|
| Kalen DeBoer | Alabama | The one “singing full-volume happy”; Alabama had lost to Tennessee |
| Kirby Smart | Georgia | On tambourine, per a post sportandstate.com quotes |
| Steve Sarkisian | Texas | Singing in the band |
| Curt Cignetti | Indiana | At the end of the original cut, asks a truck driver to honk |
| Marcus Freeman | Notre Dame | On saxophone (an alto, as Reddit pointed out) |
In the 13-second cut shown on our home page you can follow them by their team gear: the burnt-orange Texas logo and Indiana red standing behind, the Georgia cap at the red keyboard, the crimson Alabama cap in the laughing close-up, and the sax solo at the end.
Who made it
The creator is Jake Whipple, a Tuscaloosa, Alabama native and Nashville-based songwriter and musician (X: @burnerfromhe11). He told sportandstate.com that he picked DeBoer for the lead because Alabama had lost again, and that the song was the easy part: “It just seemed like the perfect clip to use.” On why it spread: “The casting was probably the nail in the coffin.” And to people praising the singing: “I just prompted this.”
How it was made
- Tool: Higgsfield, an AI video generator, and its feature that transfers the motion of an existing video onto new characters.
- Inputs: a vertical 30-second cut of the concert and Google Images photos of the five coaches.
- Time: about a minute of generation per second of video, roughly 30 minutes in all with gathering images and editing. The result runs 19 seconds.
How big it got
Whipple counted more than 2 million TikTok views; sportandstate.com put X views “conservatively” at 10 million. The Athletic ran “What happens when you put college football coaches in a Tiny Desk concert?” on 23 October, AL.com asked what it meant for DeBoer’s legacy, and an r/cfbmemes thread about it passed 120 comments. Whipple said he planned two or three more Tiny Desk videos of coaches who lose on Saturdays, without wearing the format out.
Making your own All-Loss Tiny Desk
Our generator does not take photos of coaches, players or any public figure, but the format works just as well with your own crew: your fantasy league after a bad week, your team’s group chat after an upset, or the friends who picked the wrong side of the rivalry. Upload one photo for the close-up, add up to four friends, and title it “Our Week 8 All-Loss Tiny Desk Concert”. Start in the studio, or read the seat-by-seat template guide first.
